Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh’s Film Sitaare Zameen Par Opens Strong at the Box Office

Sitaare Zameen Par box office collection day 1: Aamir Khan's film earns around Rs 11.5 crore

Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh’s new movie Sitaare Zameen Par has made a great start on its first day at the box office. The film earned between ₹9.5 to ₹11.5 crores across India. Trade reports show the net collection is around ₹9.5 to ₹10.5 crores, while the producer’s estimate is slightly higher, between ₹10.5 and ₹11.5 crores.

This heart-touching drama is seen as a spiritual follow-up to the 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. That movie had a slow start with just ₹2.62 crores on its first day, but it later became a big hit, earning more than ₹60 crores. Compared to that, Sitaare Zameen Par has had a much better opening, showing that Aamir Khan still has a strong fan following despite recent challenges.

The movie is also an official remake of the 2018 Spanish film Campeones. It’s opening day performance is similar to Aamir’s previous film Laal Singh Chaddha, which also opened with ₹11.5 crores in 2022. However, Laal Singh Chaddha didn’t do well after the first day. On the other hand, Sitaare Zameen Par has received better reviews and is connecting with audiences through its emotional story and a sense of nostalgia.

As for 2025 releases, Sitaare Zameen Par has taken the 6th spot among the highest Hindi film openings of the year. It comes just after Sky Force and ahead of Jaat. The biggest opener of the year so far is Chhaava with ₹29 crores, followed by Sikandar (₹25 crores) and Housefull 5 (₹21 crores).

The film was made with a budget of ₹90 crores. To be considered a hit, it needs to earn over ₹100 crores. It was released on more than 3,200 screens across India — a big jump from the initial plan of 1,200 screens — giving it a better chance to reach that goal.
